Sailing experience
Most people say that it is easy sailing in a flotilla even if you are a novice sailor. We believe that lake experience (for example the Ijsselmeer) is sufficient. If you often sail on open boats on inland waterways, consider that you are now sailing at sea on a different type of yacht. Next to this it can also sometimes blow a wind force 6 in Greece. Do you have sailing experience, but it has been some time since you have sailed or are you the only one in your group with sailing experience, then consider have a skipper / instructor on board for a few days.
Sailing in a flotilla: the flotilla leader decides whether or not to set sail. For the flotilla route to Zakynthos you will need good ‘sea legs’. The Corfu and Lefkas routes are better suited for people with children or those who want to take it easy.
Sailing bare boat: sailing bare boat means you are on your own without guidance. We therefore recommend you request information about the sailing area at check-in. Our crew is always willing to provide information.
Sailing Certificate:
A valid sailing license is required, so take this proof with you on holiday. It is always good to have an official sailing license with you and we need a copy in the office. The co-skipper must be 18 years of age or older.
As of the 1st of January 2020, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, which is responsible for boating licenses in the Netherlands, has decided that examinations for the Small Boating License and Large Pleasure Boat Certificates will be administered by the Central Bureau for Driving (CBR).
The content of the exams remains unchanged at the CBR. The rumour that the CBR will hold a practical exam is not true. More information about this transition is given on the website of the CBR.
