Sailing with children
Is sailing only suitable for adults? NO! You can have a fantastic sailing holiday with children, even with very little ones. When sailing with children it is important that all safety regulations are taken seriously so that everyone can enjoy the holiday.
It is quite an experience for children to spend a holiday at sea, it is something they will look back on with pleasure all their lives.
Sailing with children in Greece
It is ideal to sail with children in Greece. In the Ionian Sea, the water is very calm, the wind is calm and there are always marinas and bays close by. So, there are enough places to drop anchor so that the children can enjoy a swim or snorkel in the clear blue water.
Safe sailing with children
Of course, the journey must be safe. It is therefore important that children always wear a life jacket (child life jackets are standard on board). It is also important that the child listens very carefully to instructions. Children need to know what to do if they unexpectedly end up in the water.
Activities for children during a sailing holiday
Of course there is plenty to do for children. There are plenty places to swim when at anchor. If sailing in a flotilla they can also make friends with children on other boats.
Kids entertainment is not a standard part of the flotilla, of course we can see if there are possibilities to organize something. For example, hanging off the boom or a dinghy race. However, we often see that the children are having a great time with the other children. We don’t want to impose anything on the children, it’s their holiday too, right?
Get the children involved in sailing
Of course the best thing to do is involve the children in sailing. Teach them, for example, how to hang fenders, tie knots or throw the lines on arrival at the marina.
Or teach them how to use the VHF radio and have them call the lead boat in the flotilla ro report that your boat is approaching the marina.
This keeps it fun for the children sailing from A to B and every day is a party.
Flotilla sailing with children
During a flotilla, the children often quickly make friends with the children from the other boats. After arriving in the marina, they get together to swim, look for crabs or go fishing with rods and nets.
Sometimes they get along so well, they decide to spend a day on the boat of their new sailing friend(s). That day the one boat is pleasantly busy while the other is nice and quiet.
In the evenings they can enjoy a meal together in the restaurant at a table especially for children. Most of the restaurants have wifi.
Age of the children
Would you like to know if there are other children sailing during your holiday week? You can always ask us if there are other children sailing in the flotilla and what their ages are.
